gluten free sloppy joes

We realized early on that last-minute gluten free meals were hard to come by. One of our solutions was to concoct this adaptation of sloppy joes. (We used to use Club House Sloppy Joe Seasoning Mix but it contains, you guessed it, wheat flour). This version is gluten free, kid friendly, and full of antioxidants, fiber, and iron.

From fridge to table, this meal is ready in 30 minutes—faster than you can get a gluten free pizza delivered!

What you’ll need:

1 pound lean ground beef

1 onion, chopped

1 (14 ounce) can tomato sauce

2 (14 ounce) cans brown beans in tomato sauce

1/8 teaspoon red pepper flakes

¼ teaspoon garlic powder

¼ teaspoon onion powder

Pinch of cayenne (more if you like it hot)

¼ teaspoon seasoning salt

½ tablespoon chili powder

Grated cheese and sour cream for garnish


What you’ll do

On your stove top, heat cook the ground beef in a large frying pan. For extra beefy flavour, be sure to brown it. Add the chopped onion and cook until translucent.

Add the rest of the ingredients, except for cheese and sour cream, and simmer for at least 20 minutes to meld the flavours.

Pour over half of you favorite toasted gluten free bun or bagel (we use Udis bagels) and top with a dollop of sour cream and a sprinkling of grated cheddar.
